The Good Life
Criccieth has not escaped the culinary revolution of recent years!
Besides steak houses and seaside fish and chip shops, there is a wonderful little cluster of excellent restaurants run by innovative, award-winning chefs and those in the know travel from afar to enjoy their skills.
Whether a family celebration or romantic meal for two, the restaurants of Criccieth are able to oblige with the finest food and wines. The standard is high and most restaurants pride themselves in offering seasonal specialities made of fresh local produce.
A Taste of Wales • Lleyn Rose These are two initiatives which promote this use of the excellent local products and produce from both land and sea in Wales, including organic vegetables, dairy, seafood, game, pork, lamb and the especially delicious Lleyn Rose beef. Look out for the logo left at hotels and restaurants which are part of this splendid movement.
Good vegetarian dishes are included in the menus at most restaurants and hotels and other dietary needs can naturally be accommodated upon request.
The CTIS recommends booking especially at weekends. Most restaurants do not serve late into the evening locally, so to save disappointment reserve a table early in the day.
But not just Haute Cuisine... There is also a good range of beer gardens, cafés, ice cream parlours, milk bars, take-away fish & chip shops and bakeries. And do not miss trying home-made Bara Brith, the spiced fruit loaf or other traditional Welsh cakes and fancies at The Castle Tea Rooms opposite the castle entrance or Caffi Cwrt on the village green.
All Served with a Smile in Criccieth! From humble fish & chips followed by one of those famous Criccieth ice creams sitting on a bench to inspired gourmet viands by talented chefs, there is always something to tickle the taste buds in Criccieth.
Cheers! Bon Appetite!
