I love Criccieth in the Springtime
However you travel to Criccieth, your first sighting will probably be of Cardigan Bay and Criccieth Castle.
Criccieth's Main Landmark The town's crowning glory and principal landmark was built in the Middle Ages, but is now a ruin in the care of CADW. It is one of few surviving castles built by a native Welsh Prince. Not only will many more historic details be gleaned from taking the Criccieth Heritage Walk (published by a local historical society and available from various outlets in Criccieth) but it is an excellent way becoming better acquainted with the town.
Yes, Criccieth is a town. It was granted its borough charter in 1284. However, Criccieth is the size of a village so it is quite easy to walk around and navigate without getting lost!
Although the Castle can be seen from most parts of town and is the best orientation guide when on foot or travelling by car, the CRICCIETH information leafletleft published by Gwynedd Council includes a simple folding tourist map below.
It is widely available locally and is enough to get started. Ask your hosts for a copy of the Criccieth pamphlet when you confirm your booking or as soon as you arrive.
To be honest, it not a very good map! Not all the streets are marked and some are confusing for visitors.
CTIS has therefore included a bilingual list of street names with corresponding postcodes on this web site.
