Location:
Wales is the Principality on the west coast of mainland Great Britain.
Wales is called Cymru in Welsh and Pays du Gales or 'the country of the Gauls' in French. Welsh is an ancient Celtic language still spoken by 70% of the population in this area of Wales.
The Welsh Flag Here is the Red Dragon, which can be seen when crossing the border into Wales and flying atop buildings throughout the country.
Criccieth is on the southern shore of the county of Caernarfonshire in Northwest Wales
It is ideally placed for visiting the picturesque Lleyn Peninsula and the stunning Snowdonia National Park.
Main transport routes:
Road Connections: Criccieth is on the A497 between Porthmadog (east) and Pwllheli (west). The B4411 joins Criccieth to the A487 to the North. The hamlets and villages surrounding Criccieth are Rhôslan to the North, Pentrefelin to the East and Llanystumdwy to the West.
Rail Connections: Criccieth has an unmanned train station on the "Cambrian Coastline" which terminates in Pwllheli. The train ride from Machynlleth up the coast to Criccieth is one of the most spectacular train routes in the world.
Through trains (and connections via Machynlleth or Dovey Junction) to Shrewsbury, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and London-Euston.
Other Public Transport Direct long-distance journeys by coach are possible from Merseyside, the Midlands, Mid & South Wales and as far afield as London. Terminal: Pwllheli
Local bus and train services are frequent and efficient. With generous day rover tickets and special offers, public transport really does provide a real alternative to driving by car.
